Dolly Parton's stories are moving from your radio to your television.
The always business savvy Parton has signed a new development deal with NBC to bring movies based on her songs to the small screen.
"I am so excited to be involved with my friend Bob Greenblatt, who produced the Broadway version of '9 to 5: The Musical' with me, and my longtime friend and former agent Sam Haskell. We want to create projects for NBC that are both fun and inspirational with a family audience in mind," Dolly said in a release.
In conjunction with production partner Sam Haskell of Magnolia Hill Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television, NBC will develop a slate of two-hour TV movies based on the songs, stories, and inspiring life of Dolly Parton. This extraordinarily prolific country music artist and movie star will produce these projects that are meant to appeal to an inclusive family audience.
"I don't know anyone in the world who doesn't love Dolly Parton, and the idea of developing television movies inspired by her incredible life and the stories she has sung about for decades is exciting to all of us at NBC," said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment." I hope we will create some uplifting movies that the entire family can enjoy together, a genre of programming that still seems largely untapped on television."
The movies will reportedly feature music but won't be musicals in the Broadway sense of the word. Dolly may also appear in the projects, but she may also not (fingers crossed that she does). No word yet on when fans can expect to see the Dolly movies come to life, but for me it can't be soon enough.
Dolly Parton put on the infamous black bunny ears and posed for the cover of Playboy magazine's October 1978 issue. She didn't pose inside in the normal Playboy way, but it's still one of the most talked about issues in the magazine's history. Fox News even voted it their #4 favorite cover of all time.
So would Dolly ever consider donning the ears again? Turns out she was recently offered the chance.
Dolly revealed to AdWeek earlier this year that the men's magazine recently approached her about the possibility of gracing their cover for a second time.
They just recently wanted me to do another cover and I said, please don’t ask me, and I didn’t do it again because of all the programs I do for children now and the Imagination Library [Dolly’s literacy charity, which sends kids who sign up one book per month to age 5]. Back then I was young!
How amazing would it have been to see a 68-year-old Dolly Parton on the cover of Playboy? I'm not surprised she said no, but you definitely have to give Playboy props for having the balls to ask at least.
Dolly Parton was AND Is a totally smokin' babe. I mean she's got it going on in both the looks and talent department. And Miley Cyrus isn't bashful about expressing her love for her "Aunt Dolly" as she calls her. Miley shared this totally stunning photo of Dolly with a simple caption that said "Love My Aunt Dolly"
Sometimes I scratch my head about that relationship and other times I just hope Dolly can guide Miley into doing some country tunes. Think I'm crazy? Chhhheck out Miley doing a cover of 'Jolene' then let's talk....
Hey, hey, hey! Now here's a fun way to waste a few hours this weekend. The Google Street View team recently headed to Tennessee and mapped Dolly Parton's theme park Dollywood. That means fans can now visit the park virtually and check out what they've been missing.
If theme parks are your thing, Disneyland Paris and Legoland California are both also available to visit from the comfort of your own computer.

Dolly Parton just wrapped up her Blue Smoke world tour and is now thinking about her next project, which may turn out to be a big hit in the gay club scene.
During a press conference before her last show on the tour, Dolly told of her plans.
"At some point I would like to do a dance record and I have several songs that are very positive towards the gay community," Parton said.
"I have a song called 'Just A Wee Bit Gay'. It's a great little dance tune, it's funny and it's got a lot of comic in it.
"I do write a lot of songs along those lines with people that are different and are just themselves."
I don't know about you, but I was completely surprised to find out that Dolly hadn't already done a gay dance album. Learn something new every day.

Talk about one doggone lucky pup!
The little dog above was found abandoned in a tent at last weekend's Glastonbury music festival. She was promptly named Dolly (after Dolly Parton who had played the festival) and taken to the Happy Landings Animal Shelter where they hoped to either find her owners or find her a new home.
Now it looks like little Dolly may have scored big after Dolly Parton herself got word of the pup's plight and promised to adopt her if her owners didn't come forward.
Dolly sent out a video talking about Dolly the Dog.
“I had my manager Danny Nozell call the Happy Landings Animal Shelter to make sure the dog is being treated and cared for properly,” says Dolly Parton. “At this time, nobody has claimed the dog and the dog is in great hands at the shelter. I will take the dog home to America if nobody claims her within a reasonable amount of time.”
So far the dog, which is described as a sweet-natured older lady who came in with a now-treated serious ear infection, hasn't been claimed by the original owners so she may soon be living the high life with her namesake.
