Country music absolutely thrived this year, and that doesn't include what the mainstream regurgitated out to the masses. No, there will be no Bro-Country records in this "Best Of" piece. In fact, what many of this list's artists are doing is what the mainstream should be doing. When it comes to remarkable storytellers and vocalists, you have to look a lot further than corporate-held radio to get a firm grip on compelling stories of love, loss, heartache and even happiness.

I became a Holly Williams fan while listening to her latest album, The Highway. I had never heard her music until the album came out. I had heard a lot of great things about this album, so I decided to give it a listen. All I had to do was listen to the first song on the album, Drinkin', and I immediately became a Holly Williams fan. I listened to the album all the way through. It is by far one of the Best albums to come out in years!
I later did some research and found out that Holly Williams comes from Country Music Royalty. Her grandfather is the Legendary Hank Williams Sr. and her father is Hank Williams Jr. Holly has proven that the next generation of Williams' are most certainly qualified to carry the Country Music torch. Holly's music reminds me of her grandfather's, Hank Sr. She's got that same aching in her voice as Hank Sr. did. Holly sings with such emotion and has a beautiful voice, raw voice. She has definitely inherited the Williams' songwriting talent as well. She is a very gifted songwriter, anyone can hear (or see) that!
Yep, I'm starting two contests in one day. It's more fun that way. But this go around I'm going to do another Twitter contest because the last one was so dang much fun.
Today I have an autographed copy of Holly Williams' new CD, "Here With Me." I've listened to the CD multiple times and love it and am positive you will too.
So all you have to do is follow me on Twitter at www.twitter.com/nashvillegab and wait for me to say something about the CD. Once or twice or 10 times a day I'll mention the Holly Williams CD contest and you just reply to my Tweet and you're entered. You can enter each and every time I mention the CD for multiple chances to win. The contest will run until Friday, July 3. Good luck everyone.
And here's a word about the CD....
Mercury Nashville recently released HERE WITH ME, the label debut album from singer-songwriter Holly Williams. Holly comes from country music royalty -- Hank Williams (her grandfather), Hank Jr. (her dad) and Hank III (her half-brother) -- and HERE WITH ME contains a raw, emotional honesty that does her lineage proud. Here's your chance to win an autographed CD copy of HERE WITH ME, courtesy of Nashville Gab. Check out the video for Holly's new single "Alone" here Visit www.hollywilliams.com for tour dates and more information on Holly.
I suppose it's possible some people really do read Playboy and Playboy.com for the articles.
Playboy.com recently had an interview with Miss Williams and asked her about her musical legacy, which song on her new CD "Here With Me" she thinks is the sexiest, and whether she's going to be the next Carrie Underwood.
PLAYBOY: Will this album make you the next Carrie Underwood?
WILLIAMS:Not at all. I have paid my dues on tour, staying in Super 8 motels. But I will never be straight-up country. Nor am I a depressed, earth-is-falling-all-around-me songwriter. It's just that my music now is so left field by the standards of country, because country stars these days have to live or die by the radio. That is just not in my veins.
Check out the rest of the interview here (and yes, the page is safe for work). You can also download Holly's song Keep The Change by clicking right here and choosing save to computer.
Hank made a surprise appearance at Tootsie's in Nashville recently and from the look of the pictures, he did a bang up job of entertaining the crowd. Hank was in town to accompany his daughter Holly for her appearance on Opry Classics Families in Country Music Night.
Holly's album "Here With Me" is set to be released on June 16. You can listen to her song Mama which was written as a Mother's Day gift to her own mother by visiting Holly's website here.
I'm a mom of two and a wife of one
