After five years, Phil Vassar finally has new music coming out (and on a mystery major label to boot). Unfortunately for those who aren't fans of the style, it sounds like Phil's going to be jumping on the bro-country bandwagon.
"It's finally time to get back out and do some new music and I'm excited about it," Vassar says in a new interview.
"I love the new stuff, tailgate music and Daisy Dukes and all that stuff."
Oh, Phil, say it ain't so!
Check out the interview below.
Oh well. As they say, all good things must come to an end. Here's Just Another Day in Paradise to help you get over whatever Phil's future may bring.
A recent article by fellow Gab contributor, Vickye, made some great points about being a 40-something year old female in country music. You basically become obsolete. It's not that the format is saturated with females either. It makes absolutely no sense.
I asked Phil who he thought had it easier after turning 40, and what he said make me chuckle. Take a listen...question starts at 2:01 mark.
In one week country music fans from all over will start to descend on Nashville with eagerness to attend all the events they can or planned on, connect with friends and or meet new ones, see everyone they possibly can; some planned some impromptu, and most of all just have fun and make the best of their experience.
The road there starts a year or so in advance for many; others it's just a few months ahead. It can be a frenzied time making all the right arrangements and having everything lined up and confirmed. This is my first year attending and I think the word frenzied was mild in regards to our hotel fiasco.
Whenever I plan on attending an event that involves travel and lodging I book the hotel first, and if plans fall through I can always cancel..It's important to have a place to crash right? Well last September we did just that...booked our room at a great rate, then started piecing things together. A few weeks ago a call was made to the hotel, (it was the Ramada at the time we booked) to confirm things and get it all paid for in advance. Well much to our surprise it was under new ownership and per the reps all the info was not in their system yet, not to worry, they would take care of it. That was a red flag to all of us when they said "Don't worry, we'll take care of it". At one time we were told they had our reservation but the price had increased, OK so that was to be expected due to the type of event. Again we were told it was being taken care of, and for us to call back. After three weeks of this mess, we were told they did not have our reservations and had no room for us. YOU CAN IMAGINE my thoughts !!! It then became a blame game as to he said she said in regards to who was supposed to notify us of the ownership changes. My patience was gone and anger at the highest level possible. Bottom line: NO ONE CARED; WE HAD NO ROOM. (I hope no one else had this nightmare w Ramada/Nashville Airport Inn & Suites)
Rodeowave Entertainment's award-winning singer/songwriter Phil Vassar
wrapped up 2012 with a Christmas Tour promoting his Noel cd, and he has
hit 2013 running with a brand new single, "Love Is Alive."
Co-written with Tom Douglas, ACM and CMA Song of the Year Award-winner for "The
House That Build Me," the mandolin-infused uptempo song was just shipped to
radio.
"Tom
and I had a blast writing this song," said Phil, who is finishing a full album
to be released later this year. "The message is really simple, and crowds have
really been getting into this song everywhere we play it."
Phil
premiered the new single at a recent sold-out concert at one of his favorite
haunts, Joe's on Weed Street in Chicago, where over 1000 fans packed the sold
out venue for the nearly three-hour performance."

In 2011 Rodeowave Entertainment recording artist Phil Vassar presented his first ever Christmas album, "Noel" which held an impressive list of tradional and not so traditional songs:
1. Doesn't Feel Like Christmas Without You
2. Oh Come All Ye Faithful/ Angels We Have Heard On High
3. I Saved Christmas
4. Merry Christmas Darling
5. Big Ole Texas Christmas With Ray Benson
6. Away In A Manger With Kellys Collins
7. Santa's Gone Hollywood
8. I'll Be Home For Christmas
9. Lets Make A Little Christmas Tonight
10. What Child Is This
It wasn't till this year that Phil decided to release a video to the song entitled; "Santa's Gone Hollywood" which has brought the "Adult Only & Not For Kids" label to it by some. Seriously? Really? I have not heard this type of blasting since "I Melt" by Rascal Flatts and Trace Adkins "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" videos went wild. These videos may not be "politically correct" in the over all genre but who is to say they are or are not? I am all for fun and silliness but do these indeed cross a line on how far one can go. Or should we get a grip and be thankful there is something out there that give us a needed laugh and had no offense attached to it?
Phil has gone outside of the box before with another lighthearted fun song and video with "Bobbie With an I" which was catchy and just plain fun. Now add more half clad chics in some crazy scenes to make "Santa's Gone Hollywood" be more "risque." I will admit it was not what I was anticipating, (the Brazilian wax part was a bit much, at least for me), but I guess the video could resemble a reality of what would Santa actually do if he hit the Power Ball, or any man for that matter. When you put it in that context it is not that far from truth.
I consider Phil to be one of the most gifted songwriters among many in country music. There are many artists who do not hold a candle to his on stage presence. So now maybe you can take an insightful look into Santa going Hollywood and see if this is just what it is meant to be: Fun, Silly, & a taste of possible reality. Happy Holidays
Rodeowave Entertainment's Phil Vassar, whose "Don't Miss Your Life" continues its steady climb up the charts, played three separate sets at the recent Craven Country Jamboree in Craven, Saskatchewan...though only one was planned.
Following his 90-minute set on the main stage, a gathering of 200+ people gathered in a VIP tent backstage. No one appeared ready to go home, so Vassar sat down at the piano on a small stage in the tent and proceeded to entertain the growing crowd for another two hours.
As glamorous as the life of a country singer may seem, I'm sure life on the road can get pretty tedious and boooorrrriiiinnnng.
Boredom doesn't seem to be much of a problem for Phil Vassar and his band, though, as you can tell from the highly competetive game of Bug Bingo they're playing in the above video.
Coming to a store near you from Hasbro any day now I'm sure.
And speaking of Phil, he recently received the 2012 VAB Distinguished Virginian Award by the Virginia Association of Broadcasters at the organization's 75th Annual Summer Conference in Virginia Beach. The award honors those who, by their own actions, have contributed substantially to the wellbeing of the Commonwealth of Virginian, its citizens, or the broadcast industry.
"This is an incredible honor," said Phil, who is a native of Lynchburg, Virginia. "I am extremely proud to be a Virginian. The music and creative environment for me growing up in Lynchburg played a huge part in who I am today."
The saying has most often been that country music tells you a story of lovin, leavin, drinking, cheatin and a bunch of Yee Haw's!! Yet songs come along that in one way or another can touch your life and for whatever reason makes it totally relateable to you.
Enter the newest single by Rodeowave artist Phil Vassar entitled "Don't Miss Your Life." Maybe you think this is just another sappy song that puts "A Tear In Your Beer", and it just might be if you allow it to sink in and truly take home a lesson from the meaning. When I first heard this song I thought of so many things in my life that I could attach to it, but one recent Phil adventure brought a new spin.
Vassar’s career spans more than a decade of hit songs, including three No. 1′s (“Just Another Day In Paradise,” “In A Real Love,” and “Last Day of My Life”), and eight Top 10 hits from six albums. He is an award winning singer who has been honored by CMA, ACM, MusicRow and ASCAP. His songs have been recorded by other stars including Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, Jo Dee Messina and Collin Raye. I have been a fan since the beginning and always eager to promote and bring along new fans to Phil's music and great shows. I got to do just that.
Phil was scheduled to play at the Temeculah, CA Balloon & Wine Festival last Friday June 1st, and I thought of every way to make this adventure work, Well it did and I called one of my concert "partner in crime" friends and she was on board. Now my friend knew Phil's music but never had seen him in concert & figured she would check it out since I just drown her with my fun Phil show adventures.
It was a joy to me to see her completely drawn in to the show which is Phil Vassar; a show of never ending enthusiasm, songs, strong fan interactions and just plain fun and all from the front row!! As I witnessed all this it brought to mind Phil's song telling us not to miss our lives, take every opportunity you can to take it all in, enjoy those you love and grab everything and run with it. Those days don't come back, once they are over and you missed them there is not much of a second chance.
Take some time to truly listen, watch and you will not be able to deny it brings some meaning to you in one way or another. Will share the real good version then my live version (Okay I will never swear to be a pro & often forget I am recording & say things that get picked up; you're safe..there is nothing dirty Ha Ha) Then request this song on your local country station and once again prove what a talent we have in singer song writer Phil Vassar.
